Paper Abstract:
|
One of the noted shortcomings for serious games is the lack of guidelines or means to assess and evaluate the
performance of the player; one of the obvious drawbacks of using questionnaires when investigating human behaviour in
psychology is the subjective nature of introspective statements. This paper describes a formal language that can be used
to represent and evaluate players behaviour according to established guidelines from attitudinal research in psychology.
A mobile device based resource management game, Glasgow SoxWars, was designed to speicifcally challenge and
target the players attitudes and behaviours; Ajzens work on the Theory of Planned Behaviour forms the theoretical
background. By providing a formalism (adhering to guidelines for questionnaires set out by experts in behavioural
psychology) for the description and representation of behaviour (within the context of a serious game) we facilitate the
profiling, evaluation or assessment of the players behaviour that lives up to standards set out in the field of psychology. |
